A few posts back, I was talking about auxillary power and where to mount it. I've come up with some new ideas. First Scott Williams alerted me to Nissan's 6 hp outboard with built-in alternator for battery charging. It looks good but I still don't want to deal with gasoline. This morning I found a 5.5 hp diesel engine by Robin/Subaru. http://www2.northerntool.com/product/358_358.htm This is an affordable engine, us$850.00. It's small and pretty light - 65 lbs dry. So the new problem to tackle will be how to mount it and how to hook it up to an alternator (belt drive likely) and a propulsion system - hydraulic impellor drive, diesel electric, direct drive Thai longshaft boat style. Anyone out there with any good ideas? Any mechanical engineers? ........
